Hi—Dr. Carrie here!
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am an optometrist with a wide range of experience in many different settings, and in the last few years, I have found myself in the welcoming town of Caledonia. I’ve worked in large ophthalmology clinics, small private practice offices, federally qualified health centers, VA medical centers, and even fast-paced corporate offices. I finally broke out on my own in January 2023 to purchase a small private practice.
I did this with the intention of bringing the highest standard of care to my patients, without having to abide by short exam times or the pressure of meeting sales outcomes that might be present at larger practices that rely on patient volume and sales to succeed. I am able to meet my patients where they are in terms of eye care needs and take into account their individual lifestyles to curate the very best vision outcomes. I take my time with patients to form a comprehensive ocular management plan that best suits their life. I frequently say that a wildlife photographer probably uses their eyes very differently than a financial planner—why wouldn’t their eye care management reflect that? Glasses and contacts are not a “one size fits all” correction; they should be uniquely tailored to each patient.
Speaking of how each patient is unique, I see patients of all ages and with various eye conditions. Did you know the first comprehensive eye exam is recommended somewhere between six months and a year of age?! You might be thinking, how do they do an eye exam on an infant? Well, bring in your little one and you will see! There are so many eye problems that are missed until they are already affecting children’s motor skill development, schoolwork, and even the ability to excel at sports.
While I love eye care in general, my passion is rooted in dry eye treatment, pediatric eye care, specialty contact lens fitting, and ocular disease (for example, detecting cataracts, macular degeneration, and glaucoma at the very earliest stage).
While I was born in Traverse City, Michigan, I have found my home in West Michigan and absolutely love it. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Northern Michigan University in 2014, double majoring in Biology and Spanish Language (did I mention I’m bilingual?), and completed my Doctorate of Optometry at Ferris State University in 2019.
When I’m not at the office, you might find me playing beach volleyball or golf in the summer, and hitting up the cross-country ski trails in the winter. I also really enjoy solo backpacking trips—ask me about my experience trekking Isle Royale in 2023!
